‘Dynamic’ new CT scanner offers lower dose of radiation

It’s called a “dynamic volume” computed tomographic scanner, and it offers patients a lower dose of radiation during CT exams.

It differs from conventional CT scanning in many ways. The dynamic volume scanner covers a larger area, such as the whole head or heart, and is able to take images in one rotation versus a spiral scanner, which stacks up multiple “slices” to create one image. Thus, images are taken using less radiation and contrast dye, which is safer for patients.

The CT scanner also can subtract bone from an image to clearly reveal only veins and arteries.
